Greetings on this day when the SoMA is on the written page of the Mission Yearbook. Just wanted you to know that an old geezer out in Portland, OR (Presby. of Cascades/Synod of Pac) read of your work in the book. Also a simple prayer of gratitude for your many ministries about which I'll read in the coming days as the Presbyteries offer their writings. These are tenuous days for Synods and the church as a whole, but so it was when the first disciples spread out to share the good news. We need that as well. Grace is the accompanying force that powers what the Spirit leads us to be and do. Bud Frimoth

In my current context, we open every session meeting with some time of spiritual discernment. Lately, that has taken the form of discussion around how our theology effects our actions/decisions. It seems as if, too me, that the REs have resisted or are unable, in some cases to "think theologically" or accept that their theology does, or at least should, impact their decisions. We have a lot of former business people and those who have been on boards, so for my money. Helping people to further engage their faith in their decision making as spiritual leaders of the church would be vital. I've got some ideas. Just read the litany you helped work on and it was great, let me know if you need any help.

I think training and education have been a weak point for the PCUSA for a long time, but what do I know I'm only 34 :)

Talk to me about that tier that is not ordained. Who are they? Sunday School teachers, etc.?

What is your sense of why your REs are saying they want practical training? Because they don't value theological training, or because they are already getting it through other offerings/have it?

Keep me in the loop/I'll try to stay in the loop,

Two things: working on a congregational leadership grant, we're becoming aware ot the tier of church leaders who aren't ordained officers. Second, the things our ordained officers are SAYING they need more of is the stuff of organizational effectiveness: budgeting, conducting meetings, public speaking. I have been assuming that stuff was adiaphora, but I don't think so anymore

As I've been spitballing this around for the last few month or so, a number of people have commented on the similarities in the idea.

I think the main differences would be format (video, etc.) and pricing. I desire to see something like this being free of charge.
